This year, keeping track of Motorola’s software update policy has become difficult.
Take the recently announced Edge 70 Max, for example. Product pages on Motorola’s UK, German and Indian websites promise “3 Android OS upgrades and up to 5 years of security updates”. However, scroll down to the footnote on those same pages and you’ll see that the product “includes 2 OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates.”

Motorola Edge 70 Max: UK website showing conflicting software update information
The contradiction has confused potential buyers and has already prompted criticism from media outlets like PhoneArena and Android Authority. We wouldn’t be so quick to point the finger at poor software support because lately, Motorola can’t seem to decide what it wants to commit to.

Motorola Edge 70 Max: Indian website also showing conflicting software update information
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. We have previously encountered similar discrepancies with the Razer 70, Razer 70 Ultra and Edge 70 Pro (Edge 70 Pro+ in India), where Motorola’s regional websites, support pages and even EPREL listings either disagreed with each other or failed to provide complete information.
Our attempts to clarify update commitments through Motorola’s normal PR channels generally fail, suggesting that communication issues extend beyond public-facing websites, and there is no clear information even internally.
It seems that Motorola is having issues reliably supporting this information across all platforms, and additional effort is needed in this direction. Either way, it’s better for them to keep conflicting information online to avoid concrete commitments in either direction. But we’re willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here and hope that their publishing team gets a better handle on the situation.

Motorola Edge 70 Max: EU EPREL Energy Label listing shows a completely different update period
Whatever the underlying reason, Motorola cannot afford negative publicity and needs to present clear and consistent software support information across all of its official channels.
Software update commitments have become one of the most important purchasing factors for smartphone buyers, and conflicting messages only weaken consumer confidence. The confusion surrounding the Edge 70 Max shows that customers are paying close attention, making sustainability more important than ever.
