According to Thai authorities, emergency responders were called to a luxury residential area on July 7 after reports of an American man behaving erratically. Witnesses told investigators that Murphy allegedly damaged property inside his rental home before leaving in a rented vehicle.Thai media reports said he later offered the driver 1,000 baht to continue the journey, but the driver declined due to Murphy’s behaviour. Investigators also allege that Murphy approached the other vehicle, screamed, rolled off the road and eventually ran toward a nearby lake.Video, reportedly recorded by a village employee, shows Murphy entering the water before swimming away from shore. Eyewitnesses said he eventually appeared to struggle and disappear beneath the surface. Rescue divers searched the lake, which is reported to be more than 10 meters deep, and recovered his body about 20 meters from the shoreline after about 30 minutes.Police said no clear signs of attack were found during preliminary investigation. His body was transferred to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for full post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
