Saudi Arabia hangs a man guilty of burning his wife alive

A Saudi man convicted of luring his wife to a remote desert area, killing her and setting her on fire was hanged in the Tabuk region on Tuesday, the Saudi Interior Ministry said.According to the ministry, the man convinced his wife to accompany him in his vehicle before taking her to an isolated location in the desert. After this he sprinkled petrol on him and set him on fire, due to which he died.According to CNN Arabic, authorities said the suspect was arrested immediately after the incident and charged with murder following an investigation.A Saudi court sentenced him to death and ruled that the murder involved fraud and betrayal, as the victim had been led to believe that she was safe with him.The ministry said the decision was upheld on appeal and later confirmed by the Supreme Court. A royal order was later issued to carry out the sentence.The execution took place on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in the Tabuk region.In its statement, the Interior Ministry said the executions reflect the state’s commitment to maintaining public safety, ensuring justice and enforcing Islamic law against those guilty of serious violent crimes.It also warned that anyone committing similar crimes would face penalties as prescribed under Saudi law.
