Deepika Padukone’s sister Anisha says the actor’s depression troubled her
Anisha Padukone said that when Deepika Padukone was struggling with depression, she did not recognize the signs. She said the experience inspired her to learn more about mental health and her own well-being.

Actress Deepika Padukone’s sister and professional golfer Anisha Padukone has opened up about how she failed to recognize the symptoms of depression when Deepika was going through the toughest phase of her life. talking to PTIAnisha admitted that she had become cautious and said that the experience inspired her to better understand mental health so that she could support her sister.

Deepika has spoken openly about her battle with depression over the years and how her family, especially her mother, helped her get professional help. Recalling that period, Anisha said that living in different cities made it even more difficult for her to understand what Deepika was going through.
She said, “For me personally, I didn’t know enough about the signs and symptoms to understand what she was actually going through. The fact that we didn’t live in the same city didn’t help either, and I was really clueless and cautious. Her journey taught me that I don’t know enough about this topic and that I need to read and understand more to support her in the way that’s necessary.”
Anisha said witnessing her sister’s experience also marked the beginning of her own mental health journey.
She said, “That’s when my own mental health journey begins. I started taking better care of my mental health. As an athlete, I always focused on physical health, but didn’t pay that much attention to mental health. The more I researched and understood the topic, the more I realized that millions of people not only in India but globally are going through similar experiences.”
When Deepika Padukone revealed her struggle with depression
Earlier, at an event organized by her Live Love Laugh Foundation, Deepika had recalled how she was battling depression while living alone in Mumbai.
“For a long time, I didn’t share it with anyone because I lived alone in Mumbai. When my mother came to Mumbai to see me and the day she was leaving for Bengaluru, I suddenly broke down. My family asked me all kinds of questions about my work, but all I could say was, ‘I don’t know. I just felt helpless and hopeless.’ I don’t want to live (I don’t want to live).’ Thankfully, my mother recognized the symptoms and suggested I visit a psychologist,” the actor had said.
Deepika has also talked about the stigma associated with mental health in India and said that it often prevents people from seeking help. She has shared that opening up about her depression has made her feel lighter and has consistently emphasized that anxiety, stress, and depression can affect anyone.
Meanwhile, the 40-year-old woman is pregnant with her second child. The news was announced through a joint post which also included their daughter Dua. Deepika and Ranveer got married in a private destination wedding in Lake Como, Italy in November 2018 and welcomed their first child in 2024.
