Trying to lose weight is a goal that we all have set at some point in our lives. From increasing our exercise levels to maintaining a healthy diet, we try all sorts of combinations to shed those extra kilos. When we do this consistently, we see results. However, sometimes even after that, many of us don’t see the desired results. At this point, we start questioning our methods and approach to weight loss. Ayurvedic health coach and author Dr Dimple Jangda has shared a video on her Instagram handle that explains three reasons why you might be struggling to lose weight.

Here are three reasons why you might struggle to lose weight

1. Nutritional deficiencies

If your body lacks nutrients, vitamins and minerals, your body goes into a defensive mechanism and starts storing fat as a reserve because it expects you to fall ill. According to Ayurvedic health coach Dr Dimple Jangda, address the root cause of diseases and disorders before losing weight.

2. Personalize your diet according to your body type

Diet plays a major role when you are trying to lose weight. However, if you are struggling to lose weight, it could be because the diet you are following is probably not designed for your body type. According to Dr. Jangda, you could be an ectomorph (vata prakriti), mesomorph (pitta prakriti), endomorph (kapha prakriti), a dual body type like vata-pitta, vata-kapha, pitta-kapha or a tridoshic (well-balanced) body type. Ectomorphs feel good by eating more sweet, sour and salty foods, while mesomorphs benefit more by eating bitter, sweet and astringent foods.

3. Poor gut health

If you are trying to lose weight but your gut and colon health is not good, you will struggle. According to Dr. Jangda, your body eliminates toxins through sweat, urine and stool every day. But if your intestines and digestive system are blocked, a lot of toxins and unhealthy bacteria get trapped in your body. Therefore, one should always take care of one’s gut health before making up one’s mind to lose weight.

Rich in fibre and flavour, pineapple is perfect for weight loss. Bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple, has anti-inflammatory properties. This enzyme helps in the metabolism of proteins which helps in reducing belly fat.

Delicious and crunchy, popcorn is a healthy snack that we all love. You might be surprised to know that popcorn falls in the 100 calorie category. It’s very easy to cook, but don’t add butter to it. Plus, popcorn is a good source of fiber, so it will keep you full and your digestive system happy.

5. Cucumbers

Delicious cucumbers help detox your system as they are rich in water and fiber. Eating a cucumber will fill you up and reduce your desire to eat unhealthy foods. So, include cucumbers in your diet, especially in the form of salads.
