Puri Jagannadh, known for his powerful dialogues in South Indian films such as Pokiri, Chirutha and Businessman, is currently facing criticism over his choice of words in the promotional material of his upcoming film Double iSmart.
The controversy is over the recently released song Maara Muntha Chod Chinta. The use of the popular poem “Em Cheddam Anthava Maari” by lyricist Kasarla Shyam, who is closely associated with former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has stirred up controversy.
Police complaint filed against makers of Ram Pothineni’s film Double iSmart for item song
The item song features Ram Pothineni and Kavya Thapar and is set against the backdrop of a party atmosphere with hundreds of drunk people. The use of a particular line in this context, which roughly translates to “What do you think we should do?”, was deemed offensive by some leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
According to Telangana Today report, BRS leader Rajitha Reddy has filed a complaint against director Puri Jagannadh and his team for the ‘abusive’ use of a phrase linked to former chief minister and BRS president Rao.
A police investigation has been launched against Puri due to the controversial use of the special number.
‘Maara Muntha Chod Chinta’ is the second song from Double iSmart, following ‘Steppa Maar’ which was released on July 16. Written by Kasarla Shyam, the lyrics capture the core essence of Ram Pothineni’s character.
Mani Sharma composed the music with vocals by Rahul Sipligunj, Dhanunjay Seepana and Kirtan Sharma.
