US President Donald Trump on Thursday issued a fresh threat of military strikes against Iran, claiming that the US would “strike very hard tonight” on the country.In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Washington would also seize control of key Iranian oil and gas facilities, including Kharg Island – as it has done in Venezuela.“The United States will tonight strike very powerfully at Iran (whose navy, air force, radar, anti-aircraft and all other forms of defense, along with most of its offensive capability, have been eliminated!),” Trump wrote.He said, “At some point in the not-too-distant future, we will occupy Kharag Island and other oil infrastructure points, and assume full control of their oil and gas markets, just as we have done with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States.”Speaking to Fox News, Trump reiterated his position and said, “We’re talking to them and everybody, but you know, look, my priority has always been – take Kharg Island… My priority would be that. I don’t know that America has the stomach for that.”Meanwhile, the US on Thursday launched strikes across Iran targeting Iranian surveillance systems, communications networks and air defense sites. After these attacks, Washington called it continued Iranian aggression. Trump also indicated that military operations could escalate if Tehran did not soon accept US conditions.According to Fox News reporter Trey Yingst, Trump said the attacks would stop soon but warned that heavy bombing would resume if Iran’s leaders failed to immediately sign the deal.Iran responded with attacks on US military facilities across the Gulf.The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it attacked 18 US military targets, including air bases in Kuwait and Bahrain and the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters. Iranian forces also claimed responsibility for another missile attack on Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan.
