Honor Magic V6 Review

Introduction

The best foldable phone just got even better! The Honor Magic V6 arrives at the right time to push the boundaries of foldables with a rugged build, strong hinge, state-of-the-art screen, top performance and the largest battery ever inside a foldable. And we get to enjoy all these innovations within the thinnest body ever. Paint us with curiosity!

The Magic V6 looks a lot like the Magic V5, but Honor has made sure to make enough improvements to make it worth your money. The Magic V6 is now IP68 and IP69 rated for full dust and water resistance. It has an incredibly strong hinge and superior drop resistance, a slimmer profile, even less visible creases, and it comes in four different colors with different finishes on the back.

The Magic V6 centerpiece is still a 7.95-inch foldable display, which now features an LTPO 2.0 AMOLED panel with anti-reflective coating. The cover screen is larger this year – a 6.52-inch LTPO 2.0 AMOLED panel, as well as enhanced with anti-reflective coating.

At the heart of the Magic V6 is a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip with a full 8-core processor, as opposed to the stripped-down 7-core processor of Oppo’s Find N6. It is paired with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. It’s worth noting that the chip features a vapor chamber cooling solution, although this is par for the course for top-shelf chipsets.

Not much has changed in the camera department since the Magic V5. There are three high-resolution cameras on the back – a 50MP primary, a 64MP 3x telephoto, and a 50MP imager for ultrawide-angle and macro shots. There are 20MP cameras inside each screen.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Magic V6 is the 6,600mAh battery that is capable of 80W wired and 66W wireless charging. The Magic V5’s 5820mAh battery sees a solid increase in battery capacity, and Honor promises up to 24 hours of battery life on the larger display. There is also support for reverse wired and wireless charging.

Well, the Chinese versions of the V6 have 6,850mAh and 7,150mAh cells depending on the storage capacity.

Finally, the Honor Magic V6 boots Android 16 with MagicOS 10 on top. The latter comes with an updated iOS-like transparent UI and better cross-platform communication (mostly with iOS and macOS). Let’s not forget the tons of AI functions available right out of the box.

Unboxing the Honor Magic V6

The Honor Magic V6 comes inside a large black box that houses the phone and a USB-C cable.

Also part of the retail bundle is a color-matched case (with kickstand), a red and gold case for our red unit.

There is no charger inside the EU version of the package. If you’re looking for the fastest possible charging speeds, your best bet is to pick up one of Honor’s own chargers (rated at 66W or more), but if you’re buying the charger separately, make sure it’s the newer version with a USB-C port, as their older chargers only came with USB-A ports, and the cable provided in the box is USB-C on both ends.
