Popular singer Palash Sen, best known for his independent band Euphoria, sang many soulful songs in the 2000s that are still listened to by many music lovers. Sen’s notable works include Kabhi Aana Tu Meri Gali, Maaeri, Dhoom Pichak Dhoom, Ab Naa Jaa, Raja Rani and others.

The singer recently opened up about the politics going on in the music industry and the plight of young artistes in the current scenario.

Palash Sen sheds light on politics in the music industry

In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Palash Sen admitted that politics is prevalent in the music industry. Sen said that independent music is flourishing, but young artists do not want to fall prey to the slavery of the system.

Speaking about whether young artistes have expressed their feelings on the current situation, the Maaree singer said they are scared to speak out against the authorities as it might harm their careers.

“Of course, but they cannot speak up. People are scared. Anyone in control can turn around and say you are speaking too much, I will not give you work,” Sen said.

Sen compares Indian music industry to America

Palash Sen called the US a “better” place for artistes and said that their film and music industries are separate. The 58-year-old singer further said that the film industry should buy music from artistes and not hire them like “slaves” to compose songs.

In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Abhijeet Bhattacharya revealed that he has been a victim of politics in the music industry. Bhattacharya recalled that a section of music directors would not give him songs for Shah Rukh Khan even though he was very close to him.

The ‘Main koi aisa geet gaaun’ singer further revealed that when he won an award for a song in ‘Yes Boss’, music directors openly told him that he won’t get any offers from them.

Talking about Palash Sen, the singer has featured actresses like Vidya Balan and Rimi Sen in his music videos.
