At least five people were killed and another injured when an illegal mining operation collapsed in southwest China’s Yunnan province on Sunday, the AP reported, citing state-run Xinhua news agency.The incident occurred at around 4.30 am in Baivu village in Huize County. However, it did not specify what type of mine was involved.Six people were trapped after the collapse. Rescue teams recovered all of them from the scene and transported them to hospital, where five later died of their injuries. The condition of the surviving person is said to be stable.Officials have started investigating the reasons for the building collapse.The incident comes just a week after a coal mine explosion in northern China’s Shanxi province killed at least 82 people. Local authorities had said the operator of that mine was involved in “serious violations” of the law.
