How to prevent premature graying of hair at the age of 30? Dietitian suggests 5 superfoods

Must read

We all know that our hair will eventually turn grey. However, it can be quite frustrating when it starts happening prematurely. If you are in your 30s, you can relate to this feeling very well. During these years, our body naturally goes through many changes, so it is normal to see one or two strands of grey hair. It only becomes a matter of concern when you see multiple strands. While there can be many factors contributing to this, the most common is our everyday diet. Recently, dietician Manpreet Kalra shared five superfoods on her official Instagram page that can help reduce premature greying of hair. But before that, let’s see what causes it in the first place.

What causes premature graying of hair?

According to the dietitian, there are mainly three reasons for premature graying of hair. The first reason is the lack of essential micronutrients in the diet. For healthy hair, one should maintain a balance of all the vitamins and nutrients in their diet. She further adds that excessive sun exposure and stress can also contribute to premature graying of hair.

According to dietitians, here are 5 superfoods that can help reduce premature greying of hair:

1. Amla

We are well aware of the incredible benefits of amla for health. It comes as no surprise that this fruit can be beneficial for our hair as well. Dietician explains that amla is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which can help maintain the natural pigmentation of hair follicles, thereby delaying the onset of gray hair. She suggests drinking 15 ml of amla juice in the morning.

2. Nigella seeds

Also known as kalonji seeds, these tiny black seeds are great for hair health. According to Kalra, kalonji seeds can stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, promoting healthy hair growth. Thus, the chances of getting gray hair are reduced significantly. The best way to reap their benefits is to make a mask and apply it to your scalp twice a week.

3. Curry leaves

Curry leaves are commonly known to enhance the flavour of dishes. But did you know that they can also reduce the problem of premature greying of hair? Dieticians say, “Curry leaves help restore melanin production in hair follicles, which can slow down the process of greying of hair.” So, include these leaves in your diet as much as possible. Manpreet suggests eating 3-4 curry leaves on an empty stomach every day.

4. Wheat Sorghum

You can also consume wheatgrass to prevent premature graying of hair. Why is it so great? Kalra says that wheatgrass helps stimulate hair follicles, which leads to stronger hair. Additionally, wheatgrass can also help remove toxins. Wondering how to consume wheatgrass? Simply add 1 teaspoon of it to any of your meals or mix it in water and consume it first thing in the morning.

5. Black sesame seeds

Another superfood for your hair is black sesame seeds. These seeds protect your hair from oxidative stress and help nourish the scalp. By consuming them, you can prevent premature graying of hair to a great extent. Manpreet suggests adding 1 teaspoon of black sesame seeds to any meal or applying its oil on your scalp.
