At least 17 people were killed and five others were injured when a speeding minibus rammed into a bus parked on a motorway in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday.The accident occurred near Mardan district on the Swat Expressway when the passenger vehicle collided with a bus that was parked on the roadside, reportedly due to a mechanical fault, news agency PTI reported.When the collision occurred, the parked bus was carrying passengers towards the beautiful Swat Valley.Rescue officials and police personnel reached the spot immediately after the accident.Shah Fahad, director general of Rescue 1122 Emergency Services, said preliminary findings pointed to driver negligence as the probable cause of the accident, according to news agency AP.The rescue team transported the bodies of the injured and the dead to the nearest hospital for treatment and identification.Officials are continuing to investigate the incident.Road accidents occur frequently in Pakistan due to poor road infrastructure, careless driving and weak implementation of traffic safety rules.
