Superstition and laziness ruined Govinda’s career: Pahlaj Nihalani
Filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani recently said that despite being a great actor, Govinda’s career went down because of his superstitious behaviour, habit of arriving late for shoots and naivety.
Filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani, who has worked with Bollywood actor Govinda in films such as ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’, ‘Aankhen’ and ‘Ilzaam’, recently revealed the reason behind the actor’s career downfall. Nihalani said that despite Govinda being a great actor and human being, his superstitious behaviour made it challenging for filmmakers to work with him.

He would say that the chandelier was going to fall on the set and ask everyone to move away. Then he would predict that Kader Khan was going to drown. He would instruct people to change their clothes based on his superstition. He would refuse to do certain tasks on certain days. All this, combined with his laziness and naïveté, led to his downfall.”
At the peak of his career, Govinda used to work on 5-6 films simultaneously. worked against him Because he would often arrive late on the film set, which would upset the cast and crew members.
Nihalani said, “We had a relationship, but there was always uncertainty working with him. He would sign dozens of B-grade and C-grade films without giving it a second thought. He would be working on five or six films at the same time; nobody knew where he was. He would always come in late and lie. He said he was doing it for the money, and I told him that was a dangerous way to think. He would do things that were against the profession.”
Moreover, Govinda failed to build lasting relationships during his active years in Bollywood. The filmmaker said, “This industry runs on trust. When trust breaks… the relationship between an actor and a producer will last only if there is trust. He did not build relationships with anyone.”
However, Nihalani said Govinda is one of the nicest human beings in the Hindi film industry. “Govinda is a great actor and a great human being. He is passionate and a great family man. But his stupidity kept working against him,” he said.
