It was 2009. Katrina Kaif was part of Barbie’s 50th birthday celebrations. This was much before ‘Barbie’ (the movie) became a thing. Katrina graced the runway at Lakme Fashion Week during the Barbie All Dolled Up show, a competition that celebrated the best Barbie outfit. As the face of Barbie, she walked the ramp in the winning outfit designed by Nishka Lulla. And what a trendsetter she became! This was at the time when a Barbie doll was to be modelled on her.

A year later, in 2010, Katrina became the first Bollywood actress to have a Barbie doll made in her image. With this, she joined the ranks of Hollywood celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Shakira, Audrey Hepburn, Heidi Klum and Elizabeth Taylor who have been immortalised as Barbie dolls.

Mattel India introduced a doll inspired by Bollywood actress Katrina Barbie. The doll wore the same dress that Katrina wore during her famous Barbie-ramp walk in 2009.

At the launch, Katrina recalled her memories related to Barbie. She said, “Like all young girls, I too have grown up with Barbie. She is the ultimate fashion icon.”

In 2009, Katrina Kaif walked the ramp as Barbie wearing a pink frilled dress, which is often associated with the Barbie brand. She also wore gloves with her outfit. Her look was further enhanced by her famous bang hairstyle and a small tiara on her crown area. The outfit was designed by Nishka Lulla.

She said, “I was thinking of designing a collection for Lakme and then the Barbie contest was announced. Katrina Kaif was the brand ambassador of Barbie at that time. She had to wear the dress designed by the winner. I participated and put my heart and soul into the contest, which had around 100 participants. The best moment was when Katrina walked the ramp wearing a dress designed by me.”

Very few people know that before Katrina Kaif, it was Aishwarya Rai who wanted to immortalise her Barbie. Reportedly, she had to decline the opportunity due to bandwidth issues.

A statement issued by Aishwarya’s spokesperson at that time said, “Mattel had once again approached Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to endorse the Barbie doll, but she had to decline once again due to time constraints because of her prior commitments. The Millennium Special Edition celebrity doll was supposed to feature Naomi Campbell among others.”

Katrina Kaif, famous for her beauty and acting, is celebrating her 41st birthday today i.e. on 16th July. Katrina, who is happy to be married to Vicky Kaushal, was last seen in ‘Merry Christmas’ with Vijay Sethupathi. Her next film is yet to be announced.
