However, some reports suggest that dates can also cause constipation, which is why some people avoid dates at all. But is this theory fact or fiction? Dr Varalakshmi helps us understand it.
According to the health expert, dates are rich in fibre and consuming them in excess can slow down digestion, increasing the risk of constipation. “Dates are sweet and hard, as well as cold and heavy in nature, which can make them difficult to digest if consumed excessively on a daily basis. This can weaken our agni,” he said, stressing that consuming dates in the right way and in the right quantity can help digestion and improve overall health.

The right way to eat dates to avoid constipation: How many dates can you eat in a day?
1. Soak Dates
Dr. Varalakshmi recommends soaking dates for a few hours to reduce their heaviness and aid digestion.
2. Add dried ginger
Before eating dates, sprinkle some dry ginger powder on them. Dry ginger or dry ginger helps in warming the food, which keeps the digestion process good.
3. Prepare a cold drink
Try making ‘Khajuradhi Mantha’ drink made from dates, raisins and figs. This refreshing drink helps prevent digestive problems and keeps you hydrated.
Dr. Varalakshmi suggests eating a maximum of three dates daily as a snack to reap its benefits.
