India’s No. 1 Senorita: Farhan Akhtar honors Asha Bhosle at Jalandhar concert

Actor-singer Farhan Akhtar paid tribute to legendary singer Asha Bhosle during a recent concert in Jalandhar, days after her death on April 12 at the age of 92.

During his tribute, Akhtar talked about Asha Bhosle’s timeless impact on Indian music and the generations who grew up listening to her. He called her ‘India’s No. 1 Senorita’, celebrating her incredible range of music that has become a part of people’s lives, memories and emotions.

While performing at Lovely Professional University, the actor-singer stopped his set to honor her by singing the iconic track of ‘Asha Tai’ Damo Damo Damo from the 1971 film Hare Ram Hare Krishna. The performance soon turned into a sing-along, with the audience joining in to celebrate the singer’s enduring legacy.

Akhtar shared a video of the concert on Instagram on April 14, writing, “In memory of the great, it was incredible to see thousands of young students showing their love and respect for his music. Celebrating him is the best way to remember him.”

Earlier in a note, he had also remembered Bhosale and described him as the irreplaceable voice of Indian music. He wrote, “It’s impossible to talk about playback singing and not mention Asha Bhosle ji. Thank you for decades of music and memories.”

Asha Bhosle died on 12 April at the age of 92. He was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy Hospital on April 11 after he suffered cardiac and respiratory problems. The singer was unwell for several months.

On Monday, Asha Bhosle’s mortal remains were kept at her residence for her loved ones to pay their respects. He was wrapped in the Indian flag as a mark of respect. The video shows that when he received the state honour, soldiers wrapped his coffin decorated with white lilies in the tricolor.

His last rites were performed with full state honors in Mumbai.
