Mammootty and Mohanlal are gearing up for the release of their film Patriot, which will hit the big screens on May 1, 2026. Recently, Mammootty also reacted to the possibility of playing Moothon in the Loca franchise and shared his hopes for the future of Malayalam cinema.
Mammootty opens up about his possible appearance in the Loca franchise
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Mammootty Said, “If they manage to convince me to play the role of Moothon in the Loca series, I will also have to convince them to agree to my fees!”
Interestingly, in an earlier interview with Pinkvilla, Loca director Dominic Arun had revealed that the team had to put in a lot of effort to convince Mammootty to voice the character of Moothon. He also said that even more effort would be required to convince the actor to play the role on screen in the future.
For those unaware, Mammukka voices the character of Moothon, an elder who, along with a group of superpowered individuals, protects the world from similar entities operating in the shadows. Lokah Chapter 1: MoonStarring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Neslen.
Furthermore, during the same conversation, Mammootty was asked about his views on the future of Malayalam cinema. He said, “Now that the language barrier has been removed, I hope that Malayalam cinema will go international and reach more and more people.”
Mammootty’s work front
Mammootty will next be seen in the lead role in a spy action drama PatriotDirected by Mahesh Narayanan. The film explores the story of a man targeted by powerful figures after he exposes an intelligence application that jeopardizes the privacy of ordinary citizens. The narrative follows whether he can overcome the situation with some allies.
Along with Mammootty, the film also stars Mohanlal and Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Kunchacko Boban, Rajiv Menon, Revathi and Darshan Rajendran in important roles.
The film was originally scheduled to release on April 23, 2026, but has since been postponed to May 1, 2026.
