Hoppers continues to dominate the box office. The latest Pixar animated film made US$1 million on its 5th Monday, becoming the third biggest 5th Monday for original animation in the decade. There was a decline of 7 percent in the film’s earnings as compared to last Monday.
The film has crossed the US$150 million mark at the US box office, becoming the second original animated film along with Elemental to touch this figure in the post-pandemic period.
Based on current trends, Hopper will surpass Elemental’s lifetime earnings by the end of this weekend and become the highest-grossing original animation film in the post-pandemic era. For the record, Elemental collected US$154.4 million at the domestic box office in its entire run. It is looking to liquidate its entire theater business worth around USD 180 million in its domestic markets.
The film also performed well in the international market. It grossed over US$182 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to US$333.4 million to date.
For those unaware, Hopper’s voice cast includes Dave Franco, Meryl Streep, Nicole Paradis Grindle, Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, Vanessa Bayer, Kathy Najimy, Sam Richardson, Aparna Nancherla, Daniel Chong, and others. The story of the film is based on Mabel Tanaka, who is an animal lover. When she discovers that scientists can transfer human consciousness into robotic animals, she uses this to her advantage to uncover hidden details about them, later realizing her mistakes.
