Nayanthara and Kavin are set to appear in the lead roles in the upcoming romantic drama titled Hi. Directed by Vishnu Edwan, lyricist and former assistant director to Lokesh Kanagaraj, the director has shared details about the plot and revealed why he chose the Toxic actress as the lead.
Vishnu Edavan about Nayanthara, Kavin’s woes
Speaking with Cinema Vikatan, director Vishnu Edavan said, “I really love feel-good films. I always wanted to make films like Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Santhosh Subramaniam and Hi is in the same genre. I have written this story with him.” Nayantara in her mind and as soon as she heard this, she was ready to act. He also suggested keeping the title simple. So we chose the title Hi, a word that is closely related to the story.”
He said, “Everyone was surprised to see Kavin paired opposite Nayanthara, but every character is important in this film. Still, their love story is the main attraction. Usually, we imagine big stars opposite Nayanthara. But for this film, we wanted a fresh and relatable face. This way poet Became part of the project.
Furthermore, Vishnu revealed that the story of the film revolves around a man with a steady job who decides to get married. However, he chooses a specific type of woman and then attempts to become worthy of her while exploring their mature romance.
For those unaware, Hi is an upcoming romantic drama whose first-look poster was released in October 2025. The film revolves around a love story between two tenants living in a residential building. According to early speculation, it is set for theatrical release in summer 2026, with reports indicating a possible release in April.
Nayanthara’s upcoming movies
Nayanthara will next be seen in the lead role in a Yash-starrer gangster action film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown UpsDirected by Geetu Mohandas. The film also stars Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth in lead roles.
Initially, the film was scheduled to release in theaters on March 19, 2026, on the occasion of Ugadi. However, the makers later postponed the release to June 4, 2026.
Looking to the future, the actress has also been roped in as the co-lead in Salman Khan’s next with director Vamshi Pedipalli. She will also be seen in films like Patriot, Dear Students and Mookuthi Amman 2.
