In a dramatic turn of events, the Yellow Hills villain alien Creme, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, poisons Krypto with a dart, prompting Supergirl into action.
The film’s director, James Gunn, has previously mentioned how Supergirl differs from its predecessor, indicating that this latest chapter will offer a “more edgy and stronger portrayal” of the lead role. Considering audience reaction from early Superman screenings – where a moment involving Ultraman and Krypto was cut – Gunn made it clear that the stakes are being raised for the new project. He expressed confidence that audiences are now ready to face Krypto’s tough trials, describing Supergirl as “kind of a more rock and roll movie” with a far more resilient protagonist.
The trailer also features the soulful 1966 Motown classic, What Becomes of the Broken Hearted by Jimmy Ruffin, which serves as a poignant musical backdrop. Fans also get the thrilling experience of seeing Jason Momoa play the infamous intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo, for the first time.
Lobo and Supergirl’s fast-paced exchange in the middle of a high-octane sequence provides a light-hearted contrast with the film’s heavy themes. “Aren’t you the ditz from that dive bar?” Lobo asks, to which Supergirl immediately replies, “Funny, that’s what I’m calling you.”
Additionally, the trailer offers a brief look at David Korenswet as Superman interacting with Supergirl via an interplanetary Zoom call. Superman checks in, asking, “I was just touching base to see when you’re coming back,” establishing a connection despite the great distance between the two characters.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow It is set for theatrical release in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in theaters and IMAX on June 26, 2026.
