Karthi starrer Marshall to release during Diwali 2026? Director Tamizh confirms tentative date of period film

Karthi and director Tamizh are collaborating on a film titled Marshall. The upcoming project is being seen as a period film and has now been confirmed for a theatrical release during Diwali this year.

Speaking at the JFW Awards, director Tamizh said, “I have completed two schedules for Marshall. About 43 days of shooting have been completed. We are planning a Diwali release. It is a period film based in 1965.”

Marshall is an upcoming period action film based in the 1960s. The film is being made on a large scale with attention to detail. With Karthi playing the lead role, the film features him in a stunning makeover, while Kalyani Priyadarshan plays the co-lead role.

Initially, it was expected that Nivin Pauly would play the main antagonist. However, the actor reportedly refused the role, and was replaced by Aadhi Pinisetty. The film will also star Suraj Venjaramoodu and Jayaram in lead roles.

Earlier, in November, the second shooting schedule of the film was abruptly halted after a technician died after collapsing at the shooting site in Tamil Nadu.

Karthi’s work front

Karthi Last seen in the lead role in Va Vaathiyar. Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the film focuses on a police officer who adopts elements of MG Ramachandran’s cinematic characters, influenced by his grandfather.

As a result, the officer develops an alter ego who fights against wrongdoers as an MGR-inspired character. Apart from the Thozha actor, the film also stars Kriti Shetty, Sathyaraj, Shilpa Manjunath and Rajkiran in lead roles. The film is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Looking ahead, the actor will next star in a spy action drama Sardar 2. Directed by PS Mithran, the film serves as the sequel to Sardaar (2022). With Karthi reprising his dual roles, the film also stars SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan and Aashika Ranganath. However, the official release date of the sequel flick has not been confirmed.
