A woman named Asia Reeves is an ex-convict and is desperate for a job. So when she reads about an ad looking for help for a housekeeper role she sets out to find herself a steady salary. Not knowing what’s going to happen to her in New York City, she learns of a series of disappearances in the area and gets pulled into a bigger mess than she ever imagined. What follows is the story of They’ll Kill You, written and directed by Kirill Sokolov with Alex Litvak.
Starring Zazie Beetz as Asia, the film also stars Myhala, Patterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette in supporting roles. In an exclusive note to Pinkvilla, the 34-year-old explained how the project first came to her and what she felt while working with director Kirill Sokolov.
Revealing her initial impression of the script, Zazie Beetz shared, “What I really liked about the script was the huge wink-wink element and the very obvious fun with this genre and story. I was really flipping through the pages, which is not normal for me. I was really entertained and had really gasping moments. It just seemed like a good time, while also having a character that really had some stakes, and those stakes. Beyond that there are just survival stakes, but there are real emotional stakes, and her own complicated past just felt like a beautiful mix of entertainment and light, with drama to compensate.

Speaking about the film’s many positive points, he revealed that fans can expect many comedic moments, which add sparkle and lightness to an otherwise extremely heavy and emotionally demanding production. Calling it a ‘very well-balanced film’, he shared that it brings together many elements of excitement, comedy and genuine emotion, as well as being fun to watch, making it engaging to watch.

Working on the film was no easy task, but Zazie Beetz thanked the filmmaker’s foresight for making it possible. She said, “I can clearly see his aesthetic vision and his tone, which is very unique. It felt refreshing to me, kind of like another twist on a genre that’s quite popular right now, but giving it a fresh take.”

The actress believes that no one else could have considered such a project, “Virgil, color-wise, has these saturated, rich, jewel-toned, deep colors. I love the color story of the film. That’s what I’m naturally drawn to. But it also has this pop element. It’s the vintage-meets-modern element that I think is unique to Kirill, and it really reminds me of ’90s films like ‘The Fifth.’ “Makes you think about the elements.”
Meanwhile, They Will Kill You is all set to release internationally on March 27, 2026.
