On March 9, chamber president Jayamala held a meeting with the Central Mediation Committee and various film industry representatives. The discussion followed a written complaint by actors Saptami Gowda and Dhananjay, who highlighted how female artistes attending films and public events were being filmed in a manner which they described as indecent and humiliating. The meeting was attended by many artists and digital media representatives.

The Chamber made it clear that such incidents should not happen again. If similar behavior is reported in the future, event promoters and those providing media access will be held responsible. The statement further said that repetition of these actions will result in a formal complaint being filed with cyber crime authorities, potentially leading to legal action.


During the discussion, representatives of digital media platforms and PRO fraternity addressed the concerns of the Chamber. According to an official statement, “After detailed discussion, representatives of the digital media and PRO fraternity assured the Chamber that such photographs and videos will not be posted in future.” This assurance was welcomed by the members of the film fraternity present in the meeting.

Digital media and public relations groups also took immediate action regarding existing content. According to a summary of the chamber’s meeting, “They also confirmed that previously uploaded objectionable content had been removed.” This step was taken to minimize discomfort or embarrassment to those involved.

The Chamber’s overall message to media professionals was clear: having access to public events does not give one the right to invade privacy or act irresponsibly. With these new guidelines, the Chamber has prioritized accountability and respect for artistes, signaling a change in the way it deals with such incidents in the future.
