Suriya-starrer Vishwanath & Sons is scheduled to release in theaters in July 2026. Before its release, there were rumors that the film might be a remake of a Malayalam film starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, which was released in 2007. However, it now appears that these claims are mere speculation.
Is Suriya starrer Vishwanath & Sons a remake of a Malayalam film?
According to 123 Telugu, the news of Vishwanath & Sons being a remake is completely baseless. The upcoming Suriya-starrer family drama is said to be based on the original script written by director Venky Atluri.
For those unaware, early reports were that the film was a remake of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kangaroo, which released in 2007. The action-comedy film featured the story of an auto-rickshaw driver who is accidentally forced to take the responsibility of a child, who eventually uncovers the secrets behind child-rearing.
Apart from Prithviraj, the film also stars Jayasurya, Kavya Madhavan, Bigg Boss Tamil fame Oviya, Kaveri and others in lead roles.
While Vishwanath & Sons is scheduled to release in July 2026, the makers recently unveiled the first-look poster featuring Suriya and a child. Apart from Retro Star, the film also stars Mamita Baiju, Raveena Tandon, Radhika Sarathkumar and others in lead roles.
Surya’s work front
Suriya will next be seen in the lead role in Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji. The fantasy action film stars Trisha Krishnan in the co-lead role and is said to revolve around a lawyer who gets possessed by a deity and fights against injustice.
Apart from the lead roles, the film is also expected to star Indrans, Naty Subramaniam, Swasika, Shivada and Anagha Maya Ravi in lead roles. Although the official release date has not been announced yet, the film is expected to release in theaters in April 2026.
Looking to the future, the actor has also started work on his police action-comedy, tentatively titled Suriya47. Directed by Jeethu Madhavan, known for Aveasham, the film is expected to feature Suriya as an easy-going and eccentric police officer.
While the official update is yet to come, it is expected that the story revolves around a fun-loving police team who is assigned a serious case and how they solve it.
The action-comedy film co-stars Nazriya Nazim Fahadh in the lead role, with Neslen playing a pivotal role. Additionally, composer Sushin Shyam will be making his debut in Tamil cinema with this project.
