What is happening in the Iran-Israel-US conflict and why is the UAE affected?
The current disruption follows growing hostilities between Iran, Israel and the United States, which intensified following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in late February, prompting retaliatory missile and drone strikes in parts of the Gulf.
The escalating conflict has led many countries in the region to impose airspace restrictions and suspend flights, severely affecting major transit hubs such as Dubai. As one of the world’s busiest international travel gateways, Dubai has seen mass flight cancellations, diversions and limited operations, leaving thousands of passengers stranded while airlines and officials assess security risks in the region’s airspace, especially after Iranian missile and drone attacks have targeted US-linked assets and infrastructure across the Gulf, with some incidents and debris reported in the UAE.
