Atlassian, a leading enterprise software provider, has announced that its customers will now be able to perform AI tasks alongside human employees. According to the company, users will now be able to use third-party AI models as well as AI agents like Atlassian’s Rovo through its Jira platform.

This will allow teams to not only view but also assign tasks to AI agents on the same dashboard as human employees. Atlassian’s announcement comes at a time when AI agents are rapidly growing in popularity. Anthropic’s Cloud Cowork has already surprised many industries with its capabilities.

How will AI agents work on Jira?

According to the company, users will be able to work with AI agents on Jira, with the ability to delegate tasks and collaborate with agents through comments and assign them as accountable teammates.

Atlassian says this approach is designed to keep work coordinated and integrated on a single platform without relying on external platforms to use AI agents. With Agents in Jira, which is currently in open beta, users can loop into AI agents during ongoing projects, allowing collaboration and workflow adjustments in context.

This integration ensures that AI agents respect existing project configurations, permissions, audit trails, and approval flows. Previously, AI-powered work was often handled through limited integration in project management tools.

AI and human progress on a single dashboard

Atlassian’s update allows companies to not only assign tasks on a single platform, but also monitor and compare tasks performed by humans and AI. At a time when companies are investing heavily in an AI-powered future, this could offer a good perspective on the real productivity brought by AI agents.

Atlassian also announced new investment in Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP is a standard that allows AI to access tools, data, and workflows, allowing organizations to choose the agent best suited to their needs.

Rovo agents can now connect to MCP-enabled third-party applications such as Amplitude and Figma, allowing agents to pull live context and perform a wide range of tasks.
