Director Alphonse Puthren, known for making films like Neram and Premam, has been interviewed for the first time since he revealed his health issues recently. In the interview with Kumudam, the director shared that he was initially supposed to play lead roles in films like Trance and Paravaa.
Puthren opened up about playing the villain opposite Gautham Vasudev Menon in the Fahadh Faasil starrer Trance. Interestingly, he was also supposed to play the villain in the film Paravaa, which was later played by Soubin Shahir.

Speaking more on the matter, Alphonse Puthren revealed that he had to opt out of these roles due to his health issues. Furthermore, he also added that he has taken some time to sort out his problems and is ready to act if someone approaches him.
For those who don’t know, Trance is a 2020 Fahadh Faasil neo-noir psychological film directed by Anwar Rasheed. The film is based on the life of Viju Prasad, an atheist motivational speaker whose world turns upside down when a fraudulent group hires him to become a fake Christian pastor. The film also stars Gautham Vasudev Menon, Dileesh Pothan, Nazriya Nazim and many other actors in lead roles.
On the other hand, Parava is a 2017 comedy-drama film directed by Soubin Shahir. This is his debut film. The film featured Shane Nigam, Arjun Ashokan, Jacob Gregory, Sreenath Bhasi and many other actors in the lead roles. Dulquer Salmaan also played an extended cameo role in this film.
Alphonse Puthren’s health issues and work area
Alphonse Puthren had initially revealed that he was having some personal health issues due to which he had to take a break from mainstream films. However, the director later deleted the post and gave an update about his next film.
The director was last seen in the Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer Gold, which also featured actors like Deepthi Sati, Mallika Sukumaran, Lalu Alex, Ajmal Ameer, Baburaj in lead roles. However, the film received mixed reviews and eventually flopped at the box office.
