There are three new Hindi releases this week: Do Deewane Sehar Mein, Assi and an AI-generated film, Shatak: 100 Years of Sangh. All three films failed to take off, earning a combined total of around Rs. Collected Rs. ₹2.50 crore from three over 9000 shows. Assi received the highest release among the three, while Do Deewane Sehar Mein had higher collections.
Do Deewane Sahar Mein earned Rs. Earning around Rs 1.15-1.25 crore on the first day. It’s a low number, but it’s not really a one-day film and what matters more is how it performs today on Saturday. If it manages to post good growth over the weekend and then stay close to Friday’s numbers on weekdays, it could see a surge of sorts.
Asi spent approximately Rs. Collected. It grossed around Rs 1 crore on Friday, which is much less than Taapsee Pannu and Anubhav Sinha’s previous collaboration Thappad, which grossed Rs. Earning of Rs 2.75 crore in 2020. Those were comparatively better times for the box office, especially for films from the region. Post-Covid, with the OTT boom, the theatrical base has taken off, and the business contract of non-event films has increased rapidly. Thappad eventually succeeded in collecting Rs. The total grossed around Rs 30 crore, a figure which was seen as low by the trade at the time (trade is tight with such films). If that number were achieved today, it would probably be viewed much more favourably.
Centenary: Sangha’s 100 Years was a non-starter, earning around Rs. Collected. 20 lakh nett. The fact that an AI movie is not only released in theaters but is also endorsed and promoted by an A-lister from the industry is frankly frightening. The film may get some political support, which may lead to an increase in business at some point, if at all.
