During an episode of Wheel of Fortune, Akshay Kumar recalled how his parents were not able to attend his first stage performance in Punjab. The actor also revealed how the security staff thought his father was drunk.
Akshay Kumar recently shared an anecdote about his early acting days while hosting Sony TV wheel of Fortune. Speaking to Shark Tank India guests on the show, Kumar recalled the incident that happened during his first stage show in Punjab, in which his parents were denied entry into the venue despite having tickets.
Akshay shares his story with Namita Thapar, Anupam Mittal and Aman Verma during a guest appearance wheel of Fortune.
Recalling the episode, Akshay explained that the situation had arisen due to the local practice of allowing entry on a first-come, first-served basis instead of strictly following the ticket allocation. His parents arrived with tickets, but found the auditorium full and were informed that they could not enter. Akshay felt embarrassed at the event as he could not find his parents among the audience.
Narrating the events in his own words, Akshay said, “I told him to look from the back, but he said to sit in front and watch. Then I gave him the ticket. What happens in Punjab is first come first service. The ticket is nothing. By the time he arrived, it was completely full. Showed them the ticket, then could not speak. (I asked them to see from the back, but they said they wanted to sit in the front. Then I gave them the ticket. In Punjab, it works on a first-come, first-served basis. The ticket doesn’t mean much. When they reached, the place was full. They showed the ticket, but were told they couldn’t go in.)”
Security personnel at the venue reportedly thought Akshay’s father was drunk when he told them about his affair with the artist. This misunderstanding contributed to his parents’ decision to alienate him. Akshay said that his parents had no way of reaching him during the event as mobile phones were not available at that time.
“I was dancing and couldn’t see them anywhere,” he said. The absence of his parents during such a crucial moment in his early career had a lasting impact on the actor.
After the performance, Akshay learned that his parents had returned home without seeing his stage debut.
