oppo pad 5 review 8/10
Pros
- large screen
- good battery life
- good speaker
Shortcoming
- no fingerprint scanner
- average cameras
Oppo has launched the Pad 5 in India, which is the company’s first tablet launch of the year. On the surface, the Oppo Pad 5 bears a lot of similarities to the OnePlus Pad Go 2 that we recently reviewed. However, the Pad 5 comes with its own design flair.
Oppo Pad 5 price in India starts from Rs 26,999. So how does it hold up in everyday use? Let’s find out in our full review here on India Today Tech.
oppo pad 5 design
The Oppo Pad 5 comes with a square design with a flat frame. While the body is made of polycarbonate, the Pad 5 feels good in the hand. On the back side you get a glossy matte finish. Our review unit comes with the Aurora Pink shade, and frankly, it’s quite attractive to look at. The thickness of the device is 6.8mm, which is what you would expect from a tablet like this. You don’t get a fingerprint scanner, although there is face unlock support.

There are no stains on the backplate either. At 597 grams, the Pad 5 isn’t light, but for such a large tablet, the weight is acceptable. Although you can use the device for long periods of time by holding it with both hands, you may want to use a kickstand. Please note that we didn’t get a chance to test accessories for the Oppo Pad 5.
Oppo Pad 5 display and sound
On the front, the Oppo Pad 5 comes with a 12.1-inch 2.8K display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is an LCD panel, similar to other devices in this price range. However, for multimedia use, I found the display quite good.

You get HDR10 and Dolby Vision support which makes the device a good choice for those who stream shows in high quality. But keep in mind that you won’t get Dolby Atmos. Still, the quad speaker setup produces plenty of sound.
The display has a high brightness mode (HBM) of 900 nits, which is fine for outdoor use. But keep in mind that if you are using it outside in direct sunlight you may see reflections. Indoors, the display gets bright enough, and you don’t face any issues.
For creative use, the display gives you 12-bit color support and 100 percent sRBG coverage. It’s quite good and should be fine for people looking to do photo or video editing.
oppo pad 5 performance
Under the hood, the Oppo Pad 5 packs a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset. Although it is not a performance-centric device, in everyday use the device works. You can switch between apps, keep multiple windows open, or use split screen without facing any issues. But if you press it too hard the device starts to struggle, which is fine considering the price. The Xiaomi Pad 7 is available with a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 SoC at the same price.

For gaming, if you are someone who wants to play games on a larger screen, for example something like Minecraft, then this device is fine. You can even play COD Mobile at up to 90FPS on low graphics, and the gameplay is quite good.
On Geekbench, the Oppo Pad 5 scores 991 points in single-core and 3,014 points in multi-core performance. On AnTuTu, we got a score of just under 1 million, which isn’t bad, but not great either.

Oppo Pad 5 battery life
Oppo Pad 5 has a 10,050mAh battery. The battery is quite large for such a device. In my usage, I found that even after watching content for about 4 hours, the battery would drain down to about 50 percent. If you’re going to use the tablet for video streaming, you can expect about 7 to 8 hours of screen-on time.

For other tasks like drawing or gaming, you can also expect good battery life. Even for heavy users, the tablet should last more than a day on a single charge.
To top up the battery, you get support for 33W fast charging. The device does take time to charge, but that’s what you expect from such a large battery.
oppo pad 5 cameras
You get two 8-megapixel cameras on the Oppo Pad 5 – one on the front and one on the back. The rear camera doesn’t have a flash and is mostly for document-scanning. The scanning process can be done directly through the camera app, and it is quite easy.

Apart from documents, you can also take photos, and the quality is fine, but still, the tablet is not exactly for those who love clicking photos. There is also no portrait mode.
The front camera is placed on the side of the tablet, making the device ideal for using in landscape mode. The quality of the front camera is good enough for video calls or online meetings. But the pictures look a bit grainy.
You get up to 1080p at 30FPS or 720p at 30FPS for video recording on both sensors. Again, it is even better to keep it for limited use.
oppo pad 5 user experience
The Pad 5 runs on Android 16-based ColorOS 16 out of the box. The user interface is quite sophisticated and sophisticated. You get the same customization options we’ve seen on recent Oppo and OnePlus phones. The Flux theme also matches all icons of the device theme.

The Pad 5 comes with a few third-party apps – Netflix, LinkedIn, and WPS Office. But you can uninstall them.
Multitasking works well, and switching to split screen is also intuitive. You can also group apps together and resume your work later with the same setup – like taking notes during an online class.
While the Oppo Pad 5 works well on both orientations, I found myself using it more in landscape mode, as it helped distribute the weight better during long sessions.
There’s also an option to change the keyboard size if you want to type with one hand. The device doesn’t wobble even when placed on a table, so you can easily draw or type on it.
Oppo Pad 5 verdict: A stylish package
Now, should you consider buying the Oppo Pad 5? The device comes with a large screen, which is a pretty good panel for video streaming at this price. The speakers are also decently loud, and performance isn’t bad in most use cases.

So the Oppo Pad 5 is a good device for those who want a good tablet for media consumption, online meetings or occasional gaming. However, there are more powerful devices available on the market for those looking to play heavy games on a regular basis.
But overall, the Pad 5 lives up to what it offers, and as a bonus, it comes with a stylish design. At Rs 26,999, the Oppo Pad 5 is a solid package.
