Dhanush in legal dispute over stalled film, faces claim of Rs 20 crore: Report

Actor-filmmaker Dhanush has reportedly been sent a legal notice by production house Thenandal Films, demanding compensation of Rs 20 crore for a film project that was announced in 2016 but never materialized.

According to the notice, Dhanush had agreed to direct and act in a film Nain Rudran For banner. However, the project failed to take off, with the production house alleging that the actor later withdrew while assuring that he would make another film for the company.

Thenandal Films claimed to have reportedly incurred a loss of around Rs 20 crore, citing advance payments and pre-production expenses. These reportedly included remuneration paid to actors like Nagarjuna and SJ Suryah, who were attached to the project at the time.

The production house further alleged that the film was stalled due to Dhanush’s failure to submit the complete script and his decision to give priority to other professional commitments, leading to long delays.

According to the legal notice, Dhanush has been asked to confirm within a week whether he will honor his earlier assurance by allotting dates before the end of 2025 to complete the project. If he fails to respond or comply, Thenandal Films has sought repayment of the amount spent along with an additional Rs 1 crore for damages. The notice has also warned of further legal action if the matter is not resolved.

This development follows another legal dispute involving Dhanush last year. In 2024, the actor had sent a legal notice to Nayanthara over alleged unauthorized use of behind-the-scenes footage.
