plot

Tu Ya Main, a horror thriller directed by Bejoy Nambiar, stars Adarsh Gaurav as Maruti Kadam aka Ala Flopara, a character rooted in the rap world, and Shanaya Kapoor as Avni Shah aka Ms. Vanity, who brings a contrasting energy that shapes the central dynamics of the film. Alha wishes to collaborate with Ms. Vanity to achieve virility, while gaining thrills and attention. What begins as a strategic collaboration soon turns even more dangerous when their adventure turns into a life-and-death battle against a cunning predator, the Crocodile.

In a shocking turn of events, the two find themselves trapped inside a 20-foot pool with a crocodile hiding inside, ready to attack. Do they manage to outwit the hunter, how do they try to survive, and what effect does this ordeal have on their equation forms the crux of the story, with love and relationships quietly beating at the core.

what works

The first half is fun, fast and engaging right from the opening shot. Aankhen has an old song vibe with four tracks which adds a layer of nostalgia to the story. Just as you start to enjoy the lightness, the story slows down a bit, causing you to question its larger intentions. And then comes the interval.

The intermission point is a complete game-changer, which is the real highlight of the film. The second half becomes deeper, more intense and far more interesting. Just when you think things can’t get any worse, the unthinkable happens.

Despite its genre, the film remains surprisingly grounded, its horror rooted in emotional and situational authenticity. The twist of the interlude is sharp, shocking and effective, while the latter half remains unpredictable and entertaining.

Jump scares are really scary. You may find yourself staring with your eyes half closed, or holding the person next to you.
The script and direction are strong, keeping the tension going. The CGI is easily one of the best we’ve seen in recent times, sophisticated, impressive and technically impressive, something Bejoy Nambiar is clearly known for.

what doesn’t work

The first half, while entertaining, feels a bit drawn out in some parts. There is a brief phase where the narrative slows down, and the larger purpose is not entirely clear. A tight build-up to the interval would have made the payoff even more impressive.
