Film organization threatened celebrities in letter to Fadnavis, demanded their appointment

In a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) sought an immediate appointment to discuss the growing security threats to members of the entertainment industry.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) on Wednesday wrote a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding an immediate appointment on the growing security threats to members of the entertainment industry. This has come to light in the wake of death threats being received by celebrities from the entertainment world and security related apprehensions.

In its letter, FWICE wrote, “In recent times, several eminent and well-known personalities from the film, television and digital media industry have reportedly received threats and faced alarming security concerns. These incidents have not only troubled the individuals directly concerned, but have also created an atmosphere of anxiety and uncertainty across the industry. The recurring nature of such threats, whether direct or indirect, raises a serious question on the security framework required for those associated with this vital sector.”

In an industry that thrives on collaboration and collective effort, even a wave of uncertainty can devastate thousands of livelihoods. The film organization further wrote that as concerns over security continue to grow, its impact is being felt far beyond the individual artist.

“FWICE represents numerous workers, including artistes, technicians, daily wage earners, backstage staff and many other skilled and unskilled professionals, who form the backbone of the entertainment industry. Any threat to key members of the fraternity inevitably impacts thousands of workers whose livelihoods depend on the smooth and safe functioning of the production. The current climate of fear is beginning to affect shooting schedules, production planning and overall morale within the industry,” he wrote.

FWICE also requested to take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of everyone. Given that Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, serves as the hub of India’s film and television industry, it is essential that strong and visible measures are taken to ensure the safety and confidence of all stakeholders. We humbly request that this matter be formally registered with your good office and appropriate steps be considered to strengthen the preventive security mechanisms, enhance coordination with law enforcement agencies and assure the industry of the government’s continued support and protection,” the letter said.

“We strongly believe that under your capable leadership and guidance, effective measures can be taken to immediately and decisively address these concerns. We therefore request you to please make an appointment with us at your earliest convenience so that we can present the situation in detail and seek your valuable guidance and intervention to safeguard the interests and safety of the entire media and entertainment fraternity.”
