Facebook introduces AI-powered animated profile photos and text post backgrounds
Facebook has rolled out new AI features on its platform. Users can now animate profile photo and text post backgrounds.

Facebook announced three new features for its users on Tuesday. The new features, which are powered by Meta AI, provide users with animated profile photos, photo restyling tools for Stories and Memories, and animated backgrounds for text posts.
With Instagram and WhatsApp getting all the headlines in recent years, Facebook is one meta service that is seeing fewer feature drops. That changed on Tuesday. The new features seem to be aimed at younger Facebook users as they give these users the ability to improve their profile pages and content.

There are many new features in it. Let’s start with animated profile pictures, which add motion effects to still images, making subjects appear to be waving, forming a heart shape, or wearing a virtual party hat. For best results, Facebook recommends using a clear photo of a person in front of the camera. Users can select images directly from their camera roll or from photos already on the platform. The company also plans to introduce additional animation options later this year.
Facebook is also upgrading Stories and Memories with “Restyle,” a new Meta AI-powered tool that allows users to reimagine the look of their photos. After uploading an image to Stories or selecting a Memory to share, users can tap Restyle to enter a text-based prompt or choose from preset styles like anime or illustrated. The feature also offers controls for styles, mood, lighting and colors, as well as background options like a beach or city landscape, giving users more creative ways to personalize their posts.
Another update from Facebook is for its text posts. The company probably wants them to be more fun and it’s giving users the ability to include animated backgrounds on text posts.
Meta is also changing the way Facebook’s feed works with the new design, giving users easier access to Reels and other popular features.
Previously, Meta had stressed its aim to simplify the Facebook experience, especially with Reels. The company is focusing on making short videos easier to find and watch. The updated layout puts commonly used options, including Reels, Friends, Marketplace, and Profile front and center.
