Neena Gupta remembers telling Masaba that she did not fit the image of a Hindi film heroine
Neena Gupta shares that daughter Masaba Gupta once aspired to be a traditional Bollywood heroine, but was given the chance to get an honest reality check about industry standards.
Neena Gupta recently revealed that her daughter Masaba Gupta once dreamed of becoming a traditional Hindi film heroine, but she made her realize the reality early on. The veteran actor shared that while Masaba was influenced by the people around her, she was encouraged to act differently, a decision that eventually led the fashion designer to discover her natural talent on screen.
In a recent interview with ANINeena recalled Masaba’s early aspirations to enter Bollywood as a leading lady. “It wasn’t their decision. It just happened. That’s how the circumstances were,” he said. She explained that Masaba was influenced by “everyone around her” with similar ambitions. However, Neena chose to be open with her daughter about the expectations of the industry at that time.
He said, “I told her, look, your face is like this, your body is like this. You will not get a Hindi film heroine because you do not look like that. It is true. You do not look like a Hindi film heroine of that time.”
Rather than discouraging her completely, Neena directed Masaba to formal acting training and suggested she consider character-driven roles. That advice proved vital when Masaba made her acting debut with the Netflix series Masaba MasabaWhere she played a fictional version of herself alongside her mother.
Nina admitted that deep down she was Impressed by her daughter’s performance, she praised Masaba’s ease in front of the camera, saying, “I cried when I saw her work. She is a very good actress. She is very natural. I was amazed. She was like a professional.”
After her debut, Masaba expanded her acting portfolio with a segment in Amazon Prime Video’s anthology Modern Love: Mumbai. Last year she was also seen in a dance number kesari chapter 2She continued to look for opportunities beyond the fashion world, where she is already a well-known name.
Meanwhile, Neena Gupta is preparing for her next release. slaughter 2a crime thriller Co-starring Sanjay Mishra. This film is going to be released in theaters on 6 February.
