Is Nvidia investing $100B in OpenAI or not? This is what Jensen Huang and Sam Altman are saying
In 2025, Nvidia announced that it will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI. However, following a report alleging that the chip maker is reconsidering its plans to invest in AI startups, Nvidia chief Jensen Huang and OpenAI’s Sam Altman have pushed back. This is what he said.

In September 2025, Nvidia announced its plan to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, with the chip maker also agreeing to commit at least 10 gigawatts of computing power to AI startups. However, as reports emerged that Nvidia may be reconsidering its investment in OpenAI, company head Jensen Huang has privately criticized the Sam Altman-led startup’s actions. Now, both Huang and Altman have publicly commented on the matter in response to these rumors.
Jensen Huang clarifies details of $100 billion investment in OpenAI
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has directly addressed the rumors, emphasizing that Nvidia has never committed to a $100 billion investment in a single round or as a binding agreement. “We never said we would invest $100 billion in one round. There was never any commitment. They invited us to invest up to $100 billion. We will invest one step at a time,” he told reporters in Taipei.
When asked if the commitment still stood as the conversation turned tense, Huang responded, “I just told you. You keep putting words in my mouth. They invited us to invest up to $100 billion. We are honored that they invited us and we will consider each round one at a time.”
Huang further clarified that Nvidia will “absolutely be involved” in OpenAI’s latest funding round. He explained, “We will be investing a lot of money, probably the biggest investment ever,” but when pressed about the $100 billion figure, he said, “No, no, nothing like that.” The Nvidia chief also dismissed reports of personal resentment toward OpenAI as “nonsense” and reiterated his respect for the company’s work, saying, “They are one of the most consequential companies of our time.”
Sam Altman says OpenAI makes the best AI chips in the world
Despite uncertainty over the original deal, both companies are still supportive of their partnership. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman echoed these sentiments on X, writing, “We love working with NVIDIA and they make the best AI chips in the world. We look forward to being a huge customer for a very long time.” Altman also addressed the whirlwind of speculation, saying, “I don’t understand where all this madness is coming from.”

Altman’s comments come days after a Reuters report claimed OpenAI was unhappy with Nvidia’s latest AI chips. The report says the AI startup is potentially looking at exploring alternatives to power its AI models.
Oracle confident OpenAI can raise money to close its $300 billion deal
Oracle, another major tech player, also commented on its relationship with OpenAI. OpenAI has signed a multi-year deal with Oracle where the AI startup will buy $300 billion worth of computing power for its AI models. Oracle’s official X account made it clear that OpenAI’s relationship with Nvidia had no impact on its deal.

“The NVIDIA-OpenAI deal will have no impact on our financial relationship with OpenAI. We have full confidence in OpenAI’s ability to raise funds and meet its commitments,” the post reads.
