Amid closure rumors, OnePlus 16 leak hints at major camera, battery upgrades
OnePlus is seemingly in a busy period, with the brand countering reports claiming it may soon shut down. Amidst this noise, information about the company’s next flagship OnePlus 16 has come to light. The OnePlus 16 may be a big upgrade over its predecessor, but there may be a problem.
The last few days have been quite busy for OnePlus. There were rumors that the company was shutting down its operations completely. However, OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has confirmed that the brand has no plans to shut down any time soon. Amidst all this noise, new leaks have emerged pointing towards some big upgrades for the company’s next flagship device, the OnePlus 16.
OnePlus 16 camera and display
According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Chinese social media platform Weibo, the OnePlus 16 may get a new 200-megapixel telephoto sensor in place of the old 50-megapixel unit. This could potentially lead to a big improvement in image quality and detail. The company will likely continue to use its DetailMax imaging engine.
The rest of the camera setup is expected to be similar to the OnePlus 15, with a 50-megapixel main and 50-megapixel ultrawide lens. However, there have also been reports that the main sensor may get a spec bump of 200 megapixels in place of telephoto.
Along with the camera, the display is also expected to get a major upgrade. According to the leak, OnePlus is testing a 200Hz refresh rate display for the OnePlus 16. However, this refresh rate may only support select games or apps, like the OnePlus 15’s 165Hz screen. The display is also expected to be a 1.5K AMOLED panel.
Performance and battery of OnePlus 16
OnePlus will likely pack the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite series chipset in the OnePlus 16, which may be called Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
Besides, a big increase in battery size may also be seen. The OnePlus 16 could come with a 9,000mAh battery, compared to the 7,300mAh cell in the OnePlus 15. The phone maker has already launched the Turbo 6 series in China with the same battery capacity.
But what is the problem with OnePlus 16?
According to reports, OnePlus 16 may be China-exclusive and the company may decide not to release it in other markets including India. While OnePlus has confirmed that the company’s India operations will remain in place, the phone maker’s divisions in Europe and the US are yet to comment on claims of the brand’s closure.
