Bhavana reflects on staying away from Malayalam cinema for years: ‘I said no to Prithviraj and even Mammootty’s film’

Bhavana is all set to hit the big screen with the film Anomie, releasing on January 30, 2026. Ahead of its release, the actress reflected on the progress of her career in Malayalam cinema and explained why she stayed away from it for a long time while continuing to work in Kannada films.

Bhavana talks about staying away from Malayalam cinema for some time

Speaking to Galatta Plus, Bhavana revealed how she unknowingly stayed away from Malayalam cinema despite receiving many offers over the years.

The actress said, “I don’t plan anything these days. It was never my plan, but it just happened. I suddenly felt that I should stay away from Malayalam cinema. Maybe it was a momentary thought, but I felt comfortable that way. I worked with Adam Jones, I got married and I spent time with my family, but somewhere, I felt comfortable not being here, feeling detached from what was happening.”

“I took that sabbatical; it was my choice. Still, some of my friends from Malayalam cinema kept calling me and asking me to do a film, at least to listen to a script. From Aashiq Abu to Prithviraj, Jayasurya and even a Mamukka (Mammootty) film, they reached out. But I said no. If you ask me why I said no, I don’t really have an answer, but I had no problem with it. My There were no plans to do Malayalam films, I was comfortable doing Kannada films, going back home and staying in my comfort zone,” she said.

Bhavana further shared that the Malayalam film Enthikkakkoru Premondaran, co-starring Sharaf U Dheen, marked her return to the industry after many years. She revealed that initially she wanted to refuse even listening to the script, but was persuaded to reconsider considering what she was gaining by staying away from Malayalam cinema. This reflection ultimately led to his return.

Bhavana will next be seen in the lead role opposite Rahman in the Malayalam science-fiction thriller Anomie. Directed by Riyas Marath, the film also stars Shebin Benson, Drishya Raghunath, Binu Pappu and many others in lead roles.
