Vijay’s Jana Nayakan was scheduled to release on January 9, before the Pongal holidays. However, the film was postponed due to non-release of the censor certificate. Now, the makers are pushing for the release of the film during the Republic Day week as they will get an extended four-day opening weekend if it releases on January 23. Also, since there are no major releases in India and other film industries in Hollywood, Jan Nayakan will benefit the most from the January 23 release date.

The writ appeal filed by the CBFC against the order of single judge PT Asha in favor of KVN Productions has been listed as the 17th case before the Madras High Court comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Srivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan. Jan Nayakan’s hearing will be held at 11.30 am.

On January 12, the Supreme Court judges rejected the petition by the producers of Jan Nayakan and refused to intervene. Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih questioned the speed of the order of the single bench of the High Court.

He said, “We would welcome all judges to dispose of the cases within a day or two of their filing. But this should happen in all cases. This is a fast pace with which the case was disposed of. The case was filed on January 6 and was decided on the 7th. When the case is fixed for hearing before the division bench on January 20, he has the right to appeal.”
