Superstar Rajinikanth is currently busy working on his next release, Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. As fans are anxiously waiting for the official update from the makers, it appears that the team is all set to start the next schedule of shooting from January 20, 2026.
Is the shooting of Rajinikanth starrer Jailer 2 going to start from January 20?
According to online discussions, Jailer 2 team is scheduled to start shooting from January 20. The upcoming schedule will be a two-day shoot which will take place in Athirappilly, Kerala. However, as of now, this remains just a report, with the makers yet to officially confirm it.
As fans eagerly await the film’s release in mid-2026, actor Vijay Sethupathi confirmed his presence in the film earlier this week. The actor told The Hollywood Reporter India that he played a cameo role in the film because of his love for Rajinikanth and the opportunity to learn from him.

Jailer 2 is an upcoming action-comedy drama starring Rajinikanth in the lead role. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film is set to be the sequel to the 2023 hit Jailer. Actors like Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty and others are expected to feature.
Recently, in an interview given to Bengali media, actor Mithun Chakraborty had also revealed that Shahrukh Khan will be seen in the film, although there has been no official confirmation yet. Additionally, actress Nora Fatehi is expected to feature in a special dance number.
Rajinikanth’s upcoming film
After wrapping up Jailer 2, Rajinikanth will be seen in the lead role in the tentatively titled Thalaivar173. The upcoming film will be directed by Don fame Siby Chakraborty and co-produced by Kamal Haasan under the banner of Raaj Kamal Films International. The film will have music by Anirudh Ravichander.
Initially, Thalaivar173 was announced to be led by director Sundar C, marking a reunion after many years. However, the filmmaker later left the project due to prior commitments. Subsequently, there were reports of several directors narrating the script to Rajinikanth, including Ashwath Marimuthu, Nithilan Saminathan and Ramkumar Balakrishnan.
In a recent media interaction, the superstar confirmed that the film will be a proper commercial entertainer and will go on floors in April this year.
