Amitabh Bachchan is many things – legend, superstar, cultural institution. But even at 83, he will tell you he is still a student. In a recent reflection on the rapidly changing realities of work and technology, the actor explained how the modern workplace now demands a different kind of agility – one that was often not required in his early years.

Sharing his thoughts online, Bachchan admitted that he wishes he had learned some skills earlier in life, especially when new technologies are developing so rapidly now. He wrote, “Every day is a lesson and the regret is that what needs to be learned should have been learned many years ago.” “The regret is greater because what is being learned now did not exist then and the desire, effort and energy to learn now diminishes – with time and age.”

In his blog, Bachchan highlights how the pace of innovation has reshaped working styles, and how accepting one’s limitations can be liberating rather than embarrassing. “The pace of inventions and new systems is so fast that by the time you start learning it, time has flown by,” he said. The lesson for them is this: get the fundamentals right, then bring in the right talent. “If you are unaware or not qualified to complete a given task, no problem. You accept it, then assign it to experts of choice and get it done.”

The actor compared this to his early experiences, when not knowing something meant simply not doing it. He recalled, “In my time, if you didn’t know the work, you regretted it and didn’t do it or couldn’t do it.” “But now you take the job, and get it done through outsourcing. Oh boy, what a relief it is to find the right words.”

Bachchan was last seen in the Tamil action drama VettaiyaanDirected by TJ Gnanavel, it stars Rajinikanth along with Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Abhirami and Ramesh Thilak.
