Tamil film Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil took a decent start at the box office. The political satire film starring Jiiva started its journey at the box office with Rs. Earned Rs 1.50 crore in India. Although the debut is not very explosive, it reflects a controlled release strategy. Releasing on January 15 on the occasion of Pongal, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil has the potential to emerge as a surprise at the box office.
This is expected to increase over the weekend, as word of mouth is very positive. Social media users have already started calling it Pongal winner. It will be interesting to see whether the film will be able to translate its positive reception into viewership. However, the film is facing tough competition with other releases- Parasakthi, Va Vaathiyar and others. If the film manages to hold a strong following over the weekend and then the festive period, it will emerge as a successful venture.
Directed by Nithish Sahadev of Phalmi fame, the latest Tamil release focuses on the deep family tension during a community festival, which forces the hero to deal with the feuds and protect his family.

Apart from Jeeva, the film also stars Prarthana Nathan, Thambi Ramaiah, Anuraj, Ilavarasu, Jensen Dhiwakar, Sarjin Kumar, Jaywant, Rajesh Pandian, Amit Mohan and many others in lead roles.
Co-written by Nitish Sahdev, Sanjo Joseph and Anuraj Obi, the film is produced by Kannan Ravi under the banner Kannan Ravi Productions. The film’s songs and background score are composed by Vishnu Vijay, with Bablu Aju and Arjun Babu serving as cinematographer and editor respectively.
