In a heartwarming cross-cultural moment, Tokyo-based renowned chef Takamasa Osawa recently brought his mastery of the Indian classic biryani to the home of Tollywood superstar Ram Charan and his wife Upasana Konidela. The Michelin Bib Gourmand chef, who has gained global fame for his dedication to the dish, shared a glimpse of the private gathering at Ram’s Jubilee Hills residence. Reflecting on the occasion, Osawa wrote on Instagram, “Today I made biryani in a private home. Grateful for the trust. This city keeps teaching me what biryani is.”
This visit was more than just a meal; It was an experience. Osawa shared photos of the home’s tranquil atmosphere, which includes exotic birds, koi fish and the family’s pet dog, Rime, which she described as a ‘quiet welcome’. After making preparations in the kitchen, the cook went out to cook the food in the traditional style. One particularly lovely photo featured pregnant Upasana, Ram and her mother, Surekha, waiting for food to be served. As the cook lifted the lid to reveal the fragrant rice, Rama could not hide his joy. The actor also concluded the evening by hugging Osawa, who called it “a day I won’t forget.”
A trip to Osawa with biryani is a true labor of love. After a life-changing trip to Tamil Nadu, he spent 15 years traveling to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to hone his art. He now runs a popular 10-seat restaurant in Tokyo dedicated entirely to the dish. There are three new Hindi releases this week: Do Deewane Sehar Mein, Assi and an AI-generated film, Shatak: 100 Years of Sangh. The fact that an AI movie is not only released in theaters but is also endorsed and promoted by an A-lister from the industry is frankly frightening. The film may get some political support, which may lead to an increase in business at some point, if at all.
