The Odyssey trailer out: Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland give way to Christopher Nolan’s epic

Homer’s Odyssey is all set to make its feature debut on the big screen in July 2026. With Christopher Nolan directing the story of The Odyssey, fans of the star director are expected to get an epic portrayal. The new trailer, released on December 22, tells the story of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, who returns home after the Trojan War.

Odyssey trailer gives a deeper look at the Matt Damon-led story

The first trailer features Matt Damon in his majestic form as Odysseus, leading his team of soldiers who have fought a brutal war and wish to return to Ithaca. He moves in the right direction but deep problems await him in his path. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway as Odysseus’ wife Penelope can be seen eagerly awaiting his return. As the lovers line up, she tries to stop them. A flashback can be seen before she leaves for war, in which she is asking her husband, “Promise me you’ll come back.” And adding to her frustration, he replies, “What if I couldn’t?”

The trailer also introduces the character of Odysseus’ son, Telemachus, played by Tom Holland, who stands in direct contrast to the infant his father left behind before going off to war. A lot of chaos awaits the soldiers who just want to be reunited with their loved ones. Meanwhile, Odysseus’s family is fighting a battle of their own.

The film depicts the journey to Ithaca as Odysseus takes the water route and faces some of the greatest obstacles imaginable. The first trailer also features a glimpse of the infamous Trojan Horse, featuring a rare full-face look at Matt Damon.

Other cast members in the film include Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Zendaya as Athena, Charlize Theron as Circe, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, Mia Goth as Melancho, Jimmy Gonzales as Cepheus, and Bill Dewey as Polyphemus. Irwin is included. Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, Jessie Garcia, Will Yun Lee and many others have joined the film.

The Odyssey is all set to release in theaters on July 17, 2026.
