Pharma review: Nivin Pauly’s medical thriller is nuanced and lively with his performances even if the writing gets dull

Medical drama thriller Pharma, starring Nivin Pauly, is finally streaming on OTT platform JioHotstar. The show began streaming on December 19, 2025 and consists of eight episodes, each with an average duration of 20 minutes.

Apart from the Sarvam Maya actor, the series stars Rajit Kapoor, Binu Pappu, Narayan, Shruti Ramachandran, Veena Nandakumar and many others in lead roles. If you are planning to watch it this week, here is the Pinkvilla review.

plot

Pharma is a medical drama thriller based on the story of KP Vinod, a medical representative. The series begins by exploring the constraints of the highly competitive pharmaceutical industry, which forms the initial core of the story. However, even though he starts out as an underdog, he gradually succeeds and gains a better position within the firm.

Skip ahead ten years, a shocking truth is revealed to Vinod as he realizes that he is nothing more than a pawn in the hands of ruthless corporate entities. Now, determined to fight back, he has joined forces with medical professionals who share his plight and want to expose the system for the greater good.

Good

After a long series of bad films, Nivin Pauly is finally back to his natural form as a talented actor. The actor really shines as he slips into the character of KP Vinod and becomes the central figure in the battle of man versus corporate power.

Although the writing faces some hurdles, the series makes no compromises on its execution. Along with the ensemble cast, the show has a strong group of talent, making it an impressive watch.

Talking about technical aspects, the series features impressive editing, which keeps the episodes crisp and engaging. Additionally, the musical elements work well too.

bad

Pharma, despite being an interesting good-versus-evil story, becomes dull at some points. The writing sometimes lags behind and derails, even though the runtime of each episode is short.

Although the series is entertaining overall, it needs more polished writing, especially in some of the dialogue. Additionally, the series needed better cinematography, as the visuals did not live up to expectations.

Display

Nivin Pauly gives a strong performance in this show, delivering poignant moments that remind us of the old school acting that we admire him for. His performance also gives an indication of what he has to offer in the upcoming horror-comedy Sarvam Maya, releasing on Christmas.

Actors Rajit Kapoor, Binu Pappu and Narayan also gave strong performances and gave many memorable moments to the audience.

Decision

Pharma is an entertaining watch that doesn’t offer anything new from a storytelling perspective. However, with the limited number of episodes and short running time, the show is still a worthwhile viewing experience.
