How did the number of guests at Juhi Chawla’s wedding go from 2000 to 80?
Actress Juhi Chawla recently revealed how the guest list at her wedding went from 2000 to 80. She married businessman Jay Mehta in 1995.

Actress Juhi Chawla married Jai Mehta in 1995 in a private ceremony attended by only 80-90 guests, including close friends and family members. Originally, their wedding was planned with around 2000 guests. However, Juhi broke down in front of her mother-in-law, who then reminded them of the invitation and persuaded everyone to opt for a small ceremony.
In a recent interview at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Juhi recalled the stressful time she went through during her wedding. “I was shooting for some of the biggest films of my career and I was about to get married. My mother had passed away a year ago. When the wedding date was coming closer, I was thinking that my mother, who I loved the most, is gone and now my career will also be over,” the actress said.
“I didn’t know how to be happy about it. So one day I broke down and I told my mother-in-law about it and she said, ‘koi baat nahi’ (It’s okay),” Juhi said.

Moved by Juhi’s emotional turmoil, her mother-in-law took a heartwarming step. She remembered that around 2000 wedding invitations had already been sent to guests across the world.
“She convinced the family not to have a big wedding and I got married at home with just family and close friends in attendance. This way only 80-90 people were present. Imagine your mother-in-law cancelling the pre-sent invitations,” the Yes Boss actor said.
Juhi Chawla was introduced to businessman Jay Mehta by filmmaker Rakesh Roshan. During an episode of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Juhi revealed that Jay used to write love letters to her before marriage. “But it all stopped after marriage (laughs). Those days we used to send each other letters and cards which have now changed to emails and WhatsApp messages,” the actor said.
She added, “Jay and I met at a diner, and then he started hovering around me. One time, on my birthday, he sent me a truck full of red roses. And it took me a year to say ‘yes’ to him.”
Juhi Chawla is best known for her performances in films such as Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Ishq and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.
