Aadhaar update from home: UIDAI will launch easy online address and mobile change, no need to go to the centre.
UIDAI is set to launch a new feature that will allow Aadhaar users to update their mobile numbers directly from home through the Aadhaar app using OTP and face authentication for secure digital verification.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will soon introduce new digital self-update features through the official Aadhaar app. Once released, this feature will allow Aadhaar holders to update their mobile number and residential address directly from their homes. It aims to eliminate the need to visit enrollment centers – a process that often involves paperwork, queues and long waits.
At present, updating key Aadhaar details such as mobile number and address requires a personal visit to an Aadhaar center due to stringent verification requirements. This has long caused difficulties for many citizens, especially senior citizens, persons with disabilities and those living in remote or rural areas, where access to Aadhaar centers is limited. With the shift to home-based digital updates, UIDAI is now aiming to bring greater accessibility, speed and ease to the time-consuming process.
UIDAI announced the upcoming features through a series of posts on X, confirming that both mobile number and address updates will soon be possible using digital authentication through the Aadhaar app. In its message to users, the authority said: “Update your address from the convenience of your home. No need to stand in queue at the Aadhaar centre. Launching soon, stay tuned.”

Earlier, the Aadhaar governing body had made a similar announcement regarding the mobile number update, emphasizing that the feature will rely on OTP verification and facial authentication to securely confirm the user’s identity.
How will the new update system work
The Aadhaar app will use a two-step verification process to maintain strong security.
Firstly, to update details, users will receive a one-time password (OTP) on their existing or new mobile number. After this, they will have to complete facial authentication through the app, which will allow UIDAI to digitally match their live facial data with the existing Aadhaar records. This approach removes the need for physical documentation and centre-based verification, keeping the update process secure.
According to UIDAI, the feature has been designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, enabling Aadhaar holders to update their details by simply entering their Aadhaar number, selecting their preferred language, verifying the OTP and completing facial authentication. Users will also have to set a six-digit security PIN to lock their Aadhaar profile within the app, adding an additional layer of security.
Download Aadhaar App
Although the features are not live yet, UIDAI is urging Aadhaar holders to download the Aadhaar app on Android or iOS so that they are ready once the rollout begins. The authority said digital updates are “rolling out soon” and encouraged users to keep an eye out for further announcements and instructions.
