Ranveer Singh sorry for Kantara’s mimicry at IFFI: Wanted to highlight Rishabh Shetty

Actor Ranveer Singh has publicly apologized after being criticized over copying an important scene from Rishabh Shetty’s film. Kantara: Chapter 1 During the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa. The incident caught attention because its star Rishabh Shetty Kantarawere present in the audience at the time, and Singh’s act was considered by many to be insensitive, with additional controversy surrounding his reference to the Daivas as ‘ghosts’.
On Tuesday morning, Singh addressed the controversy by posting a statement on his Instagram Stories. He wrote, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. From actor to actor, I know how much time it would take to pull off that particular scene the way he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.”
Singh expressed respect for cultural diversity, saying, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief of our country. If I have hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”

The incident came to light when Singh came on stage and repeated Rishabh Shetty’s Daiva performance from the climax. Kantara: Chapter 1Addressing Shetty directly and appreciating his work in the film. He said, “I saw Kantara Chapter 1 In theatres, and Rishabh, it was an excellent performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi Daiva) enters your body – that shot was amazing.”

While Rishabh Shetty was seen laughing at the time, a section of social media users expressed disappointment, calling Singh’s comments and imitations disrespectful towards the cultural traditions depicted in the film. Some pointed to the mischaracterization of the daivas, who were considered not ghosts but forest deities, as a particular source of crime.
The reaction intensified when further footage surfaced showing Shetty warning Singh on the program not to imitate him, leading to additional reaction from fans.
