Elon Musk says he thinks life is a simulation, he avoids GTA because he hates killing NPCs
In an interview with Nikhil Kamath, tech billionaire Elon Musk speculated that we live in a simulation. Musk compared the development to video games and revealed that he does not like playing GTA.

Elon Musk is one of the few people who believes that humanity may be living inside a simulation. Similar to the movie The Matrix, this theory hints that we may be living inside a digital world, controlled by some outside force. In Musk’s recent interview with Nikhil Kamath, he reiterated the reason why he thinks we are in a simulation and revealed that he is not fond of playing GTA.
Musk was asked if there was a possibility that we might live in the ‘Matrix’. The tech billionaire admitted it could happen. “Probably very high (probabilities), I would say it’s very high,” he said.
Elon Musk compares simulation to video game
To support his claim, Elon Musk drew a comparison to the world of video games. He told that video games have completely changed in half a century. He explained, “It’s gone from very simple video games where you have, like, Pong, you’ve got two rectangles in a square, just batting it back and forth, to photorealistic, real-time games with millions of people playing simultaneously.”
The Tesla CEO acknowledged that if technology continues to advance at this rate, it would not be impossible to emulate entire civilizations. “If this trend continues, video games will become indistinguishable from reality,” Musk said.
In this case, Elon Musk claimed that within a billion years, a civilization might be able to recreate the entire world with intelligent characters. Maybe the one we already live in. He said, “So, the future, if civilization continues, there will be millions, maybe billions, of photorealistic, like, indistinguishable from reality video games, with a lot of depth in the characters in those video games.”
Elon Musk doesn’t like playing GTA
Musk was also asked about the time he spent playing Grand Theft Auto. The tech billionaire confessed that he wasn’t a big fan of the gaming franchise. He said, “Actually… I only played GTA a little bit because I didn’t like the fact that…
Like, in GTA V, you can’t really progress unless you kill cops.”
The Tesla CEO claimed that he is not a person who likes to kill non-playable characters (NPCs). He explained, “‘It doesn’t work for me.’
I don’t really like killing NPCs in video games. It’s not my thing, you know?”
