This film starring Aamir Khan, Urmila Matondkar and Jackie Shroff was released in theaters on November 28, 2025, i.e. after three decades. The film’s lead actress talks about what makes Rangeela a special film and whether this cult classic can ever be remade.
Urmila Matondkar on what makes Rangeela special
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Urmila Matondkar mentioned that when this film was released time had almost stood still and very few films are able to make that place in people’s hearts. She said, “It’s incredible how people remember my character’s name. When I’m at the airport, they call me by my character’s name. It shows the relatability factor of the characters in the film.”
If Rangeela could be recreated
The 90s star believes that many fans consider Rangeela sacred, yet she is open to the idea of remaking the cult film. Urmila Matondkar further added, “To each their own. If someone feels they should do it, they should do it. What can I say? Cinema never belongs to anyone. In fact, nothing belongs to anyone. The film is no longer yours. Over the years, I have realized that the film is for every person who has seen it and it is mine.
